2 issues both with heating
Hi everyone!!!
Ok, I have a 95 Sierra, a little rough around the edges, but runs well and I love the old girl. There are 2 issues I am having: 1) Mt temperature gauge has decided to crap out on me. I have checked the male end of the plug and the wiring as far up as I can, and haven't found a break anywheres. The needle is sitting on the left side Of the gauge, which is leading me to believe that the temp sensor has gone kaput on me. I am only saying this because I had a previous one that had a break in the wire, and it was showing max temp. Please advise. and; 2) I only get the blower motor to work in the cab when I place it on high, it won't work on any other setting. I have talked with several people, and they are leading me towards the blower motor resistor. Not sure if this is true or not, but I can't find a mention of it in the Haynes book at all, so not really sure what I am looking for. If anyone can lead me in the right direction for either issue I would appreciate it. Thanks everyone!!! |
1) Ground the wire and see if the gauge moves if so it is your sensor.
2) Yes it is the blower resistor - remove your glove box and you will see a plug going to the resistor and 2 screws holding it in. It screws right into the air plenum. It is a common problem, but an easy fix. Good Luck! |
OMG!!!!!
Got the resistor in....... whoever designed it must of had hands no bigger than a little girl's, cause I had a hell of a time trying to get the part in and out. !!! Still working on the temp sensor.................... |
Yeah it's tight and usually GM puts a couple of razor sharp pieces of metal or plastic near by so you can leave a little DNA behind.

My dad's '97 has the same issue with the dead spots in the fan speed. Great thread! I'll have to see if I can't get a resistor pack in there one of these days.
