Default 2000 5.3 Four wheel issues

Hi Gents, thanks for this forum. I am a newly Chevy owner, I own a couple ford strokers and figured i'd buy myself a beater fishing truck. Silverado 1500, 5.3 ltr Z71. I got the truck for a great deal although i didn't know that the 4x4 did not work. So i've read and read trying to find results or even good troubleshooting tactics. I do appologize if this has been posted before, i did look thru about 105 pages in the forum with no avail.

Symptom: Four wheel drive inoperative. Not much diagnostics as of yet. HAd a buddy push the 4by buttons with only the battery on too see if i can feel and/or hear the actuators. Which they both were actuating from the sound, i haven't pulled them to see if the rod is extending. The transfer case I'm quite sure is operating normal, due to the low range works.

So I'll pull the front actuator and see if the piston is extending to actuate the forks from what i've read. And also check voltages to them I'm guessing 12v to 24v DC? The lights on the switch panel inside work fine. Push the 4hi and it blinks for a couple seconds then initializes, put into neautral and 4low works fine. So im guessing there perhaps is a problem with the differential locking or maybe something to engage the clutches inside the t-case? Also I'm unsure if there is a 4x light within the instrument guages, there isn't one showing on my truck other then the light with the buttons. I did check the fuse, not getting a 4x service light. I also need to change out the knock sensors, I doubt that can be a cause.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've seen many issues with this on the net but nothing with an actual fix.
