Default 2000 chevy k2500 350 5.7 vortex

Went to start my truck the other day and the fuel pump went out. replaced the fuel pump and went to start truck and back it up to clean up my mess and as soon as i put the truck into reverse it died. can not get started again, I have spark power to the spider but my fuel pressure is only 20psi. Ive tried three fuel pumps now and all give me 20psi. new fuel lines new fuel filter. i am lost and can not figure this out.

If you have a Haynes or Chilton manual it has some checks for low fuel pressure. They say to install a fuel shutoff valve in the fuel return line and close the valve. Turn on the key and check the pressure if it comes up, normal is 55-62psi. Don't let it rise above 75psi or damage to the fuel pressure regulator will occur. If pressure is OK replace the regulator. If low pressure check the fuel lines and fuel filter for restrictions. If no restrictons found remove the fuel pump and check the fuel strainer for restrictions, the fuel flex pipe for leaks and fuel pump wiring for high resistance.

Yeah, make sure your fuel pump wiring is good.

Wireing is good. I pinched off the return line and still only get 20psi. There are no fuel leaks and I have a new filter. It will hold the 20psi all night.

Well either your suction screen is clogged up and there's lots of debris in the tank, your fuel sender is bent or kinked , or your fuel pump isn't getting enough juice to make pressure. Unplug the vacuum line that goes into fuel pressure regulator and look to see if there's fuel in there. Then see if the pressure goes up.
