Hey all,

Just bought a 2001 2500HD 6.0L Ext cab long box.

I am curious about its towing capabilities.I have found everything online from 9200 lbs to 15300 lbs.

I found the GVWR and the GAWRs on the drivers door.

Dose anyone have the towing capacity, GCWR and tongue weight rating for the truck? How about for hauling a 5th wheel.?I do not have a owners manual for the truck to look it up.

Everyone tells me I will have no problem hauling a 9000lb 5th wheel, but I am the kind of guy that wants to see the numbers too.

I looked quickly on the site and found nothing, and am hoping someone can help.

Towing capacity for the 1500HD is rated at 10,300 pounds (4,700 kg), and can haul 3,129 pounds (1,419 kg) in the bed. The 2500HD ups these ratings to 16,100 pounds (7,300 kg) with the 8.1 liter engine or 10,600 pounds (4,800 kg) with the 6.0 liter engine, and 4,058 pounds (1,841 kg) in the bed, while the 3500 can tow 16,700 pounds (7,600 kg) and haul 5,511 pounds (2,500 kg). The addition of 4 wheel drive tends to reduce the towing and carrying capacity by 200 to 400 lb (181 kg), depending upon year and model. Other factors, such as options, can also affect these numbers.

 

Here is a link to the Edmunds review. It might be a good idea to take your serial# and get an owners manual. Might actually find one online for free. As this article says, your ability will change depending on your gear ratio. Looks like w/ your truck configuration and a 5th wheel you will be slightly above that 10,600 lbs. probably around 12,000lbs.

I says (page 289) my model of K-2500 HD will pull up to 10200 lbs. It also looks like the 4.10 axe was standard.

It also gives tongue weight with a weight distribution system of 1200 lbs max
and a 5th wheel hitch of 2500 lbs max.


Only thing I need to find out now is a Gross combination weight rating.
