2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 hd-First things to go??
Hi all,
I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 HD, 2wd. about 130,000 miles that are mainly highway miles. Havent had any serious problems to speak of yet (knock on wood) but in everyones experience, what is going to be the next thing to go on this truck.??? Any preventative maintance that I could do now that would save me time/money/hassle in the future? I currently have a slight oil leak but its not to bad. Any advice would be great.. Thanks again, Will |
I have had a few fuel pumps go out at around 120,000 - 150,000 on some diffrent trucks I have owned through the years
|
Thanks..
One thing I did forget to say is that I did replace the fuel pump on this truck about 15K miles ago.. Any other thoughts? How many more miles before she starts to go to hell, if thats even possible...... |
Those trucks are pretty well made.
As far as preventative maintance goes do everything you know you are supposed to do and stay on top of it at regular intervals. Change the oil, coolant, diff fluid, Tranny fluid and filter, fuel filter etc & make sure all of your hoses are in good shape. If you continue to take care of it, the truck will last you for a long time. |
How difficult is it to change the coolant, diff fluid, and tranny fluid... although I am not the first owner ( know him pretty well though) I do not think any of these have been changed...
|
it is not hard at all
|
Any other thoughts guys?
Thanks.. |
I've seen the water pump go this early or earlier but it could last a few more thousand. Watch the weep hole on the wp bearing. If it becomes discolored, it may be the start of a leak and indicate the need to replace the water pump. Of course, a drop in coolant will be noted also.

O2 Sensors whether they have been changed before or not. Do it anyways. They save you money on the MPG. I change the fuel filter every oil change. Add a bigger trans cooler to prolong the transmission.
|
How difficult are the 02 sensors to change? Tried to used the search function to find a good link but do any of you know a good site for a "howto" on this?
Thanks |
