Default 2004 Tahoe startng problem

I was wonder if anyone has ran into this. 4 weeks ago i was running some errands. Stopped at the store and when I came back out to leave the truck was completely dead no power what so ever. Got a jump, cranked up right away. Took it down had the battery and Alt checked both were good. Didn't have any issues until the other day. Again same exact thing no power at all completely dead. pulled a few fuses nothing looked bad got a jump and started back up. Check engine light has never came on and no waring signs before the problem occurs.

Any thoughts?

Try this at home...

Start your truck. While the engine is running turn on all electrical stuff. Radio lights ac etc.

While engine and everything is running disconnect the battery.

If the truck stays running your alt is ok most likely bad battery.

I do not put much faith in letting others test it. Is best for you to try this yourself first this will give you a good starting point.

Let me know what happens and we can take it from there.

Also check your terminals. If your truck has the double positive post they are known to give issues with age. It's and easy fix, but just make sure that when the bolt is tight going into the positive post that you can no move the terminals at all. Also make sure whoever tests your battery actually load tests it. A sporadic issue like that sounds more like a connection problem somewhere though.

Worf and Shamrock thanks for the feedback but both suggestion have already been looked at.

I'm wondering if it might have something to do with the stock security system.

I am wondering if maybe there is a short in the ignition switch

You should have the alternator bench tested. They can tell in more detail if it is really workin or not.
