Default 2007 Silverado 1500 battery drain

I have a 2007 Silverado classic, 4x4, manual transmission, 4.3L V-6. If I don't start it for 4-5 days the battery is completely dead. The dealership replaced the battery but the problem persisted. They checked the amperage load while parked and said it was within normal tolerance. One person told me to park the truck with the transmission in reverse. I tried this and after 5 days the trucks headlights were bright and it started just fine.

Will parking in any gear other than reverse cause battery drain? If so, why? I can't seem to find anything in the owners manual about this.

The truck does have an after market Kenwood radio/cd player in it. It shuts off when the key is off however the clock and memory would use very little power.

Thanks for any advice and help!

Doug

Got a drain somewhere... When did you have the radio installed? And did you use the correct radio plug or a universal? My buddy installed an aftermarket radio, but used an universal radio plug and it had a bad drain as you mentioned his did teh same thing. As soon as he installed the correct plug for the radio it corrected the problem... Just a thought. I do not know why this caused teh drain, but it was the only thing that was changed. Hope this helps...

Default Dead Battery

I have a 2007 Silverado LT 4x4. The battery died after about 2 1/2 years. I bought the truck out of state and the local dealership in San Diego went kaput so I waited until I could get to the purchase dealer. He looked at at and said "you're out of luck jack". Come to find out this is a common problem. The battery is pretty small to begin with and there are so many drains on the battery when the engine is shut off. Trust me, it's not your after market radio. I found a system that I can add to the truck called gaurdian. It allows me to add a second battery to the extra tray provided but its the only system that charges them one at a time. This way they come up fast. The second battery is completely isolated to prevent drain and they even have an inverter you can add for tailgaiting, camping, etc. I have had this on for 9 months now and I no longer worry about starting any more. Take a look at www.atct-guardiansys.com and see if this is up your alley. I hate being stranded more than anything and this solved all the problems plus gave me an extra toy with the inverter!

Good luck with it.

I have an '09 and have had a similar problem. I was laid up last summer and didn't drive my truck for about three months. The battery went completely dead once, was recharged and allowed to go dead again. When I started driving it again, everything worked ok until I let it set up for five days during a period of snow. It was completely dead after only five days. I took it in to the dealer and they checked the battery, said it was bad and replaced it with no questions. I felt the battery going dead a couple times may have weakened it enough that it would not hold a charge on its own for long. Don't know if you have ever let the battery run down but if you have, that may be the problem. Good luck.

My 2007 did the same thing. Battery went dead, jumped it off. Next day dead again. Nothing added to or altered on it. Took it to a dealer. They replaced the battery, and reprogramed something. On way home airbag light came on. Took it back, reprogramed something again . No problems since then (8 months) I got the impression they were aware of the problem.
