Yeah im goin with lifter too. Really the only way to see is take stuff apart(which I know you dont wanna do). Pulling the cam could show some wear on the lobe the lifter is rolling on. Like I said I know you dont wanna do any of this stuff. My 01 has had a lifter tappin sound since I got it and no problems. I have even put in cams in it and its still there so this may fall under the "Phantom GM Knock" issue that has been around since they came out with the Gen III motors.

Just watch your oil pressure close to see if it fluctuates, this will be the first sign of mechanical failure.

the problem is, with the new chevy's at least my 08 there is no oil pressure gauge just a low oil pressure idiot light. I even hooked up my buddies OBDII reader and we have every reading but oil pressure. So this scares me, I'm thinking of making an appointment with the GM dealership but it's so quiet now they will charge me an $85 diagnostic fee because they won't hear it. I can hear it but I know what I'm listening for.

Really? No Oil Pressure gauge in your 2008? My 2008 Sierra has an O/P gauge in it. I'm surrised the Chevy doesn't.

This is what my instrument cluster looks like, just fuel, coolant temp, mph, and tach.

So they just called and the verdict is bad valves. So they are going to rebuild the engine under factory warranty. I'm curious if they find more things wrong when they start tearing into it. But they are also replacing my driver window regulator and driver rear door lock actuator all under my extended warranty. They wont start till Monday though when the parts come in. My 1500 has a tow/haul mode as well. I'm trying to see if the 6 gauge cluster is a plug and play cluster in my truck. If so I'll be putting that in for assurance.

Well, good luck with the rebuild, and thank goodness for warranties!

Did you buy the truck new?
