Default 2009 GMC Sierra alt voltage

My truck is charging at 14.93 volts. battery is brand new. Is this rate to high and if so what should the charging voltage be? above voltage is at idle.

14.93 seems a little high to me. 14.2 is normal. I assume you are reading voltage with a DVM? Check with no load (engine running, nothing on) and again full load (engine running everything on).

I'd say don't mess with it. Your alternator is charging your battery.

What you'll be looking for, is the voltage to go down a bit after running the truck for a while after starting it. The alternator should back off a bit once your battery is charged up again.
