Default 2009 Silverado Work Truck 4.3

My 1991 sport truck was totaled on Valentines day. I'm looking at this work truck to replace it. Only has 9,000 miles on it. Any comments on the truck and engine would be appreciated. Thanks.

My 4.3 with a hypertech programmer gets awesome gas mileage. With the way I drive I can easily get over 20 mpg. However when pulling a trailer,it is a different story. The 4.3 is a good motor. It really comes down to what you need the truck for.

I'm getting 21 bone stock right now but I drive like an old man just for that purpose. That's what happens when your 17 and bring in about $40 a week.

I'd say with tunes, good exhaust, a good CAI, reasonable sized wheels and tires and tire pressure, we could get 24 or 25 just driving around.

And yes, these engines are dogs when pulling anything. I don't even wanna guess what I get mpg then.

I have an 07 classic Silverado Work Truck 4.3L with auto trans. If I go easy on the gas I can only get 14.7 mpg at best in the city. Any reasons?

14.7 MPG... probably means that you are more in the stop and go traffic. And remember not all trucls are the same coming from the factory as far as driveability and such.

The company that I worked for, supplied the employees with Chevy trucks. When gas went up a few years ago, they bought few V-6 trucks, to save on gas.
To make a long story short.....
They will never buy another V-6 truck again! They were underpowered and the fuel savings was non existant!
All of the V-6's have been replaced with a V-8.
