Give it time to break in. My 04 GMC did the same thing and progressivly got better. And with a few mods I gained more power without loosing MPG.

Yeah bud just give it some time. Once it breaks in the horsepower will go up and more power means less throttle means less gas. Just keep it regular for now. I would say after about 5-10k it should start to feel different.

Thanks for the replies....I have got some strange looks at the gas station after I started cussing and yelling after I figured out my mpgs.....still irritates me...thats why I bought a half ton, already got a 1ton and 3/4 ton both 4wd diesels and they are gettin better than my new one...

Just bought my 2010 Silverado 1500 5.3 extended cab 2 months ago, it has a little over 500 miles on it and I've been taking it on random short road trips to build up the mileage, I live in a rural area always gas brake gas brake, and I'm getting 12 mpg. The highest I went was 12.3 but this week dropped back down to 12.1. When I got the truck it was getting 11 but made a steady increase. Also, remember diesels get better gas mileage.

Well its gettin about 17 now thank God. Got about 3000 miles on it now...just got it on the 14th of June...I am a cattle broker so I have to make frequent runs to MO, NE, KS, all over OK, AR, and TX....Hopefully it will keep gettin 17+ but I haul *** on the interstate most of the time so I wouldn't really expect it then....Thanks for the replies...

Remember these motors come with a compression ratio of 9.5:1 from the factory so premium unleaded would help alot with power and MPG.

What is your gear ration in the rear end? GM has been putting gears in the low threes in these trucks and I am not so sure that this is really the best ratio's for the way we drive.I have 3.73 and I always get 20.5 to 22+ on the interstates with 87 oct gas. Last trip the the high desert 250 miles round trip 21.9 mpg. Next oil change, pull into Wal-Mart and change to Castrol Edge synthetic oil"watch them" to make sure they put in the right oil. It comes in gold colored quarts. They also carry Mobil 1 synthetic but again you have to make sure that it's Mobil 1 "Extended" and not just Mobil 1.I also use Amsoil gear oil in the rear end. My 1st oil change I started using synthetic oils and the truck is coming up on 78k which over half are pulling a travel trailer that weighs 6650 lbs, and when pulling the trailer I get 11.5 to 12+.Try these fluid changes and see if they don't help with the mpg.jvp

I will have to look and see what the gear ratio is again..I know I can be doing 80 and its rappin right at 2 grand on the tach. All I put in it is 87 oct. havent had an oil change yet but will just have castrol put in it...I read somewhere not to put synthetic in it yet because its not thick enough to keep the top end lubbed up or some chit'. Just gunna use castrol 5w30 or whatever it says on the cap. Wonder what they put in it at the factory...prolly effin' penzoil or some junk....
