Default 2500HD 8.1 Liter burning oil

I have a 2002 2500HD 4x4 with the 8.1 liter/496 ci. motor and allison transmission. apparently most of the first years this motor was in the truck as far as i know, the motor burns 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles or every 100 gallons of gas. chevy knows about it and has yet to do something about it. There is also an informational bulliten from GM but the dealer has to call it in to get the full details, here is the number and description of the bulliten, you will need it if you are going to talk to the dealer, they WILL NOT offer up this info, and might not even know about it.

i also used to have a 2001 Z06 that did the same thing, though another guy with the same car and the same problem had the motor rebuilt and never burned oil again.

i have many friends that own mechanic shops and none of them know the correct "fix" to the problem.

any suggestions??

Big Chevy, do you have pictures of your truck? I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with burning alot of oil. Ever since 2002 I've always wanted an 02 with the 8.1 and allison 4x4. I know you said you know alot of people with shops, but have you been to JBA?

I had an 8.1 in a 2001 HD, it used alot of oil when loaded, but light it was pretty easy on oil consumption. I had heard of the problems but never really heard of a real fix. Keep us posted about it.
