I have a 86 el camino with a 305 in it. The only issue I've had with it is the typical of any older gm vehicle. The seals dry up and you get the blue smoke when you start it. The 305 is a very strong motor. I've thought about just putting a different set of heads and intake on it and there would be a huge power difference from the stock set up. You gotta remember too that it is the same block just not bored out as much and the parts are pretty much interchangeable. So build a 305 if you want but like every one else has said "there is no replacement of displacement"
