Hey guys, My dads 4.3 vortec on start up the other day started a clatter like hyd. lifter clatter and the oil press. pegged the gauge. Then blew the gasket out on the oil filter. I would normally think he spun a bearing however this is a low mileage 2000 model that is babied. Any other ideas or has anyone seen this

 

hmmm... sounds strange, never heard of that. It could be a blockage in the oil lines cause a build up of pressure, but I wouldnt think enough to do that. To tell you the truth I really dont know.

 

Ok its not really lines that the oil goes through, but holes in your diff. parts like the crankshaft, cam, etc. The high pressure could be cause by blockages, or the pump is putting out an irregulary high amount of pressure. hope this helps
