My 92 Silverado recently began to shift at higher RPMs than normal (3000+ RPM) but would shift through all gears, including overdrive. I parked the truck and a few days attempted to start the truck to move into the garage to work on it and when I tried to start the truck the engine would not crank, as though something was stuck and preventing the shifting. I tried starting in neutral and shifted through the gears and eventually the truck started. I pulled the truck in and adjusted the TV cable per the shop manual and now no matter what the truck appears to be in second even when in drive or overdrive although I can shift down to first.

Does this seem like the shift solenoid could be bad or something else? The truck shifte fine into drive, reverse, neutral but it just will not shift up.

Any thoughts?

 

I should have previewed the post....something appeared stuck and prevented STARTING not shifting...would also make a slight clank sound when trying to start, not sure if related to the trans issue or not but since shifting through the gears a few times allowed me to start the truck, I assume is is related.
