Have you chescked your u-joints? Next I would try to look for anywhere that has play. Then secure it on a lift try to watch as someone puts in in reverse and drive to see if you can tell where the slop is. Could be tranny, tranfer case, rearend, etc. You just need to narrow down which area first.

how hard is it to tighten u-joints? and how hard would it be to replace them?....know of any companies that would let me put in on a lift to see that?

If you build a repore with one of the local shops they may let you put it on a lift. As far as tightening u-joints, there are uaually 4 bolts or 2 ubolts with 4 nuts. But if these are loose, your u-joint will probably be shot. They are very easy to change with a hammer, socket of correct size to tap out joint, and c-clip removal tool.

There should not be much play. It really varies alot and I do not know exact number. But any more than 1/4-1/2 inchwould seem like alot to me. You may actually see the driveshaft kick back a little (if you have to much play) when you put it in gear at idle with the break off.
