Default 70 sierra 1500 trans problems

I have a 70 sierra with a 3 speed on the coloum (aka 3 on the tree) well sometimes it will refuse to go into 2nd gear and i can hear some noise coming from the inside of my steering coloum, does anyone know possibly what the problem could be?

sounds like some worn parts in the shift part of the column.......pull the wheel and start looking for worn or failed bushings in that area of the column

I don't know if that tranny has syncro. or not, but that would be my guess. One thing to try is to see if you can double clutch while going into second to see if that will allow you to shift. If you can then I would say the syncro. on 2nd is going bad.
