8.1 liter long bed vs. short bed

Default 8.1 liter long bed vs. short bed

Does anyone know what the difference in mpg is betwween 8.1 liter long bed and short bed, if any? i currently own a 2003 8.1 liter long bed. been looking around for a new truck and considering short bed.

I don't think you'll see any improvement in fuel economy, but you'll definitely see an improvement when trying to park!

If you're looking at a heavy duty truck, I don't think they come in short bed. They only make the long and regular beds. You have to go to a 1500 to get the short bed. I had a HD regular bed and now have the short bed. For my money, I'll take the short for my purposes. They weigh less so they would have to get a little better mpg and parking is definitely easier. Actually you can get them in long or short bed. I had a 2500HD extra cab short bed with the 8.1/Allison combo and wish I never sold it. That was one fun truck to drive - it would haul butt or whatever I put behind it. I've never seen a short bed regular cab with an 8.1 though. To answer the original question: I agree with Kevin - I don't think there will be any difference in mileage.
