92 GMC 1500 AC Control Panel not working

92 GMC 1500 AC Control Panel not working
AC control panel went dark a couple of months ago, but intermittently illuminates for 10 or 15 seconds. After lighting up for a few seconds, there is a click behind the dash and the control panel goes dark again. Have check all related fuses, but can't find any reference to a relay or other control.

It seems to be more on the order of a relay or some other connection rather than the control panel itself. I've about resigned myself to pulling the dashboard out to figure out what is back there.
