Default 98 c1500 cold problem

98 c1500/ 305, new fuel filter, plugs, cap, rotor and wires.
When this thing is cold, it stumbles and takes a couple cranks to catch, sometimes even needing a feather of the throttle. It will run, with a stumble off idle, with raw fuel smell from exhaust. Once the temp gauge gets up to operating temp, if I shut it down and wait about 30 seconds or more, it'll start fine and run perfect, but if I don't shut it off, it will run poorly for hours.
No codes, no CE light on, but I'm grasping at straws right now. Anybody have any idea???

Is your model fuel injected or do you have a carburetor?
