Default 98 Silverado 5.7 1500 4x4 won't start after fill up

I've done a search and didn't see any answer to my problem. I was driving and need fuel. The gauge was just touching the red so had about 2 gallons of fuel in the tank. Fueled up and started the engine and it fired and instantly died. Wouldn't fire again after that. It cranks freely and will fire and run a bit on starting fluid. I can't hear the fuel pump run ( really don't want to change this the tank is full) when I turn the key. I replaced the fuel pump relay with no help. I tested all of the fuses under the hood and they are good. I've seen issues with the ignition starter relay but don't know how to test this. I'd appreciate any leads even if it's the darned fuel pump.

Well I hate to say it but it sounds like you burned up the pump running it so low. If you aren't hearing it that is definitely a sign, but I would stick a fuel pressure gauge on it just to be 100% sure. If it is bad I recommend lifting the bed on one side - IMO it is much easier than laying on your back wrestling an awkward tank (especially a full one). If you need more instructions on how to do that just let me know.

Thanks. I like the tilting the Bed idea. Those pumps are pricey too. I've heard allot of them go out on this era Chevy with the ethanol mixes we get in Calif. It gave no warning just stopped working in 5 minutes. Is there any way to jumper the fuel pump relay to see if the pump is actually not working?

Try hitting the bottom of the tank while someone it turning it over.
Sometimes the pump will get a bad spot in it and the vibration will get it going again. If that is the case it will still need to be replaced.

I've never tried the tilting method to the box since we just pull it off. Will give it a shot sometime but basically we don't drop fuel tanks on trucks anymore unless the tank itself is bad. There are special cases where you'd still drop the tank but it is a PITA.

EDIT:unplug the fuel pump connector and check for power and ground.

Here is my dually that I did SOLO...

Remove the drivers side bolts, but just loosen the passenger side - it makes it to where it pretty much line itself back up. Of course - undo the filler neck, any ground wires, and the harness for the lights. This one took me 3 hours by myself which I didn't think was too bad.

Nice pics!
With the lack of rust I suspect you don't live in the salt belt.
Reminds me that I want to hit some salvage yards for some factory overloads for my K3500.
