99 1500 4.8L 97k- need help with clunk issue
when i come to a complete stop i get a little clunk almost like its a brake issue. but sometimes after i've stopped as soon as i release the brakes it feels like it slams into gear, but only first. no other gears shift hard. any suggestions or more info needed?
I had a 89 Silverado with the same symptoms...Drove me nuts...It wasn't until an excellent GM Tech found that when you stopped, the rear driveshaft yolk would actually get forced into the rearend and actually stick.......let the brakes off and it would release with a "clunk or thud".....Maybe this is your clunk.......Let me know how you make out....
I have a '99Z-71 that does the exact same thing (101,000 miles). I know this is a common issue with these trucks but I would love to hear some more ideas about how to eliminate or reduce it.
no tranny service yet, i'm not experienced enough to know what the rear driveshaft yolk is but i tried to get a feel if it was forcing into the rear end. the thing is it does not do this all the time. mostly in the morning and especially when the idle rpms are high. it also feels like when i let off the brakes they should release smoothly but they open up with little resistence.
sounds like this is something im going to have to take to the shop to fix?
