Default ABS and Brale Light On

I have a 1999 silverado... it has 38 inch tires... 12 inches of lift ect. My ABS and Brake lights come on after i drive a few miles... i think its due to the big tires... is there anyway to shut em off... cause i was told that is messes with ur automatic tranny and kills the ABS. Thx

If the lights are on because of your lift you need to get a computer programmer like from hypertech, superchips etc. But i would really think it has more to do with the front wheel wheel speed sensors in the unit bearings. These were a notorious problem on these trucks, they had a recall on them but they might give you a fit because of the lift. As far as the tranny goes it can mess up your shift points because the sensors are not reading proper wheel speed but really thats more because of the bigger tires then the wheel speed sensor.

If the ABS light is on, the ABS is deactivated, therefore it will not work at all. It won't hurt anything. You more than likely have a bad speed sensor. The tires should not trigger the light as long as they're all the same size. Mind you with that big of a tire, if one is low in air it would trigger it. There is also a bulletin on the light coming on intermittently. All you have to do is remove the two grounds on the frame below the drivers door. They are the grounds for the EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module) Take them off, clean the rust and stuff off the connectors and the frame. Bolt it back on and give it a shot of rubber undercoating. Chances are it's one of those problems.

I have the same problem with the ABS/Brake lights coming on intermittently. I have noticed that now that this happened more and more last Spring when it got warm outside and would light quicker then. Now that's colder again (30 degrees outside) I noticed that I can drive farther and longer before it lights. I also noticed it lit tonight when I drove off a paved road onto a gravel road. I was thinking that the brake fluid may need to be flushed and re-bled. But it sounds like it could be a bad ground connection. Can you tell me more on where they are- on the bottom of the frame, on the inside or outside, are they black? Thanks for any info you can provide!
