Hey Argon:
I haven't been able to get by a dealer to get pricesyet, maybe this weekend. (probably too scared!!!!)

Since my max position 5 burned out, did that speed go through a resistor? Usually the top speed is full power, resistors only step down the lower speeds?

Also, since the connector is part of the fixed wiring harness, the old connector must have to be chopped out and the new connector spliced in, hence your mention of needing a mini-torch for the shrink wrap on the wires.

Want you to know I sure appreciate your help in describing all this.

I only drive the Silveradoon weekends (mileage & all) during the week I drive a '89 Firebird/2.8 litre V6/Stick to work, gets 30 mpg at 68 mph on open road. I drive it to work to save the newer truck and benefit from the mileage.

Thanks & Regards,

Randy, Las Vegas

Hello Argon:
Stopped by the Chevy dealer's parts dept. today. Got the following:

Resistor box $ 55.25
Connector$ 111.63

But got to thinking about things, my truck is a '05, less than three years old,
And has 25,000 miles on it.

Althought I bought it used, it is still under the 36 month/36,0000 mile bumper to bumper warranty.

I talked to a service manager and he said bring it in and they would fix it. Duh! I hadn't thought about that til now!

We'll see if it all works out.

Regards,
Randy, Las Vegas

Hello Argon:

Took the truck in to the Chevy dealer today and they repaired it under warranty, sure glad for that! They installed the resistor and connector. Works fine now. Hope it sticks!

Thanks again for all the input on this subject, wouldn't be surprised if it helps others too!

Regards,

Argon:

What steering shaft are you speaking of, and if I don't currently have a problem, why would I want a new one?

Are they a widespread problem?

More good info please.

Regards,
