Default Airbox question

Hey all, new member here.

I've got an 06 2500HD Duramax that I have removed the muffler on and put a Bully dog chip into, as well as a K&N drop in filter. I'm wondering if its a good idea to take off the airbox lid and leave it on a shelf somewhere.

I work in the oil field so the truck does get dirty fairly often, but its not always that dusty, usually just muddy or snowy.

Also any other mods done on this truck?

Cheers

Leave the lid on. If you remove it you'll suck in hot air from the engine compartment.

I agree. Search for the "Free Mods List" on here for ideas such as Swiss Cheesing the Airbox.

cool thanks. I was poking around at the free mods around here. Are these ok to do with the duramax?

The "air gap" mod , if available for your vehicle, may not be a good idea. Heat and compression is what your motor runs on.

What about the MAF screen mod? I'm thinking maybe just the K&N, Bullydog and straightpipe are probably more than enough? I had an AFE stage 2 intake in my cummins but didn't notice anything really.

You can try the MAF screen. Not many of us have the duramax. Post the question specificaly for the Duramax owners and see what they say.

Definately leave the cover on the box. It will help keep the mud out as well as the heat. You may be able to rig up a custom ram air, which will help highway mileage.

No need to be sorry. There isn't a forum specifically for diesels at truck forums. What I ment was start a new thread with a title similar to "Diesel help" or "Diesel mods" or "Diesel questions"
