Alloy wheel sizes???
Hello All,
Just picked up an '04 Silverado 1500 for my new work truck. Just a 2WD/reg cab but I would like to upgrade from steel wheels to factory alloys. I'm seeing quite a few 6 lug GM alloys for sale locally but I can't seem to find info regarding backspacing, etc. for the different years/sizes. Is there a difference between 2WD and 4WD wheels? How about the late model 17" 6 lug take-offs that are turning up? Thanks for any input. RT

Chevy was nice enough to leave the backspacing alone. You can feel free to pick up any of the Chevy 6 lug take-off's. The only thing to be careful of is if you get wheels and tires. Some of the newer stuff will rub slightly. I put 2007 Avalanche 20" wheels and tires on my 2000 Suburban and they look great, but will rub sometimes if I am turning hard out of a slight incline (like out of a gas station to the street). It is VERY slight and is only touching the plastic panel in the fender well so I am living with it. Besides that you are good. Isn't GM putting out some bad *** wheels lately?!?!?!?!
Considering the cost of aftermarket wheels and that GM has produced some very nice "stock" alloys to date, yes the GM wheels are a great deal. I'm just looking to move to a nice set of 16" or 17" stock alloys. Its a work truck so it dosen't need anything special. Thanks for the input! RT
To find out the width of your alloy wheel, you will need to check on the alloy wheel itself.
On every alloy wheel the size will be stamped into the alloy wheel, this stamp can be on the outside but is usually stamped on the inside of the alloy wheel on the back of the spokes.
For example, the stamp may read 15 x 7, 7 x 15, 15x7JJ etc. The second value in 17x7 indicated the width of your alloy wheel, in this case the wheel is 7 inches wide (with a diameter of 17 inches).
