Auto to Manual Swap
#3
I'd imagine it's quite involved (though I have the 60e as well) - just to give you an idea, I went looking for an ignition cylinder for mine and even THOSE are different for auto and manual. The manual ignition cylinder has the key release button and costs about $40 more than the one for auto.
Hey Yankee - is the 80e a direct replacement for the 60e? Mine's going on 150k miles and I'm just waiting for the day my 3 and 4 clutches burn up and I'll have to decide the best way to do it right the first time... do HD overhaul or replace it with the 80e?

80e's are a LOT stronger (clutch size being one of the advantages)...you would need a different harness (nelsonperformance.com)...the 80e is longer and uses a different yoke, you would need to tune the PCM to accept the 80e, but the conversion is worth it in my opinion. Or go with a turbo 400 and lose overdrive.

Ive been down this road and IT IS NO FUN.........lots of swapping and changing.....the clutch pedal assembly is the hardest unless you can get one from a salvage yard but at that point you still have ALOT of work ahead of you....I did this on a 78 Chevy P/U so I had it easy compared to the electronics nightmare you have to deal with on a 98.......but it can also be a great learning experiance.....ITS NOT A WEEKEND JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
