automatic to manuel

RE: automatic to manuel
You first need to check and see if you have the 4L60E or just the 4L60 tranny. That will determine weather or not you will have to get a tranny bypass circuit or not. Then you will need to get a new steering column, One that doesn't have the shifter on it. Or you can just cut it off and make sure it stays in park, or you truck will not start. Then you will have to cut a hole in the center of the floor, to make room for the shifter. Then you will have to find an adaptor plate for the transfercase, or get a transfercase that will work with the standard tranny's out-put shaft. Then you may have to change a cross member under the truck from the autos mounting location to the standards mounting location.
There is a lot to do just to switch it over to a manual trans, your best bet is to find a truck of similare body style and take the parts out of it and put them into your vehicle. But it can be done in about a week in a drive way, and about 3 days in a shop. It's just a lot of work to do it.
Might I ask why you want to switch tranny styles??

I agree with you completely gpet. Changing from auto to manual is a hell of an ordeal.
You forgot to mention mounting a clutch pedal along with all of the linkage. A problem that I think you might have trouble with is setting up a switch that will only allow you to start your truck when you press the clutch pedal. This means you will have to do a lot of rewiring to your automatic setup-you'll probably have to remove the park switch completely.
My advice is to forget about it. Keep your eyes on ebay and other places for a 89-95 z-71 with a manual tranny and part it. It is going to take a while though...its hard to find a silverado with a manual trans. I've tried.
Good luck.

Yeh, I would have to say it again. Get the parts truck (if you can find one), and switch out every thing that you need. Sorry I forgot about the clutch peddle and linkage assembly. I am only HUMAN though! J/K!! I think that I just got tyerd of listing things. Well GOOD LUCK!
