Backfire/hiccup??
Newbie here.... I recently bought a 1995 K1500 with 124,000, pretty clean and seems to be well taken care of. It looks like the previous owner replace the rotor cap, rotor, plug wires. I just replace the ignition module, the spark plugs and a fuel filter.
The problem that I am have is that in overdrive, running about 65 or 70mph, when I apply just a little bit of gas , it starts to hiccup and backfire. If I continue to press the gas, the problem tends to somewhat go away. It is not throwing any codes. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance, Sean1 |
Start by inspecting the TBI. Look for black sludge and carbon build up. Use carb cleaner to wash it down while it is running.

I will try this.
Thanks RUFFNECK4LYFE |
also double check your timing and make sure your plug wires are on all the way
|
OK
Sprayed a half a can of carb. cleaner in at all direction, and it is all clean and pretty now. That 's wasn't it. Thanks RUFFNECK4LYFE Checked plug wires they seemed well seated. Thy look new, however I am not sure how old thy are. Apparently , I do not own a timing light any more. Thanks chrisbmo2000 Any other thought's? Sean1 |
Ok. I had a GM car that did this. I checked everything. Could not figure it out until I had the coil pack checked. IT had a 2 piece ignition module and coil pack. Somehow it was grounding out on a light load. So you might wanna check all the ignition. Even check the TPS(throttle position sensor). Here is a how to with a multimeter...

good call ruffneck4lyfe I forgot about the coil packs
|
Coil: yes, sounds right. I will let you know.
Thanks Sean1 |
OK, New Ignition module, new coil, new TPS.
Could it be a EGR, Intake gasget, other. How do I check this things. |
Alright lets look at mechanical. Take your valve covers off and check for a broken spring or bad rocker arm.
