Backup Light install question
 

Hi All,
I have a quick question. I own a 2006 Silverado and would like to install (auxiliary) backup lights. What is the easiest way to wire them? I don’t want to use a switch. I want them to come on when I put the vehicle in reverse. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

If you remove your rear lights, you will see the loom (wire group) that has about 18" you can pull out to find the right positive wire. Simply attach the positive from you BU lights to the same light which comes on in reverse and attach the Neg to the truck. You might want to upgrade the fuse from a 10amp - 15 amp. My simple way may not be the only one but it works. You will need to do each light independently and not use just one side.

excellent answer. one twist i might add is that you can just pull the original back-up bulb and you won't have to add or upgrade the fuse. since you have installed more powerful bu lights, the old ones aren't needed anyway.

reverse/ back uplight not working
 

I was thinking about doing the same thing. But right now my reverse light on 96 s10 doesn't work. Is there a fuse for reverse light? It has a trailer 4 prong hook up on it. changed bulbs,used test light no power with key on in reverse.any ideas??

Another thought on auxiliary backup lights:

If you have a 7 pin trailer plug, you have the backup light circuit there too. You can buy, or make, lights that plug into the harness. Check out "snow plow reverse lights" on eBay or plowsite.com for more information.

What about the 4 pin flat trailer plugs???????

Reverse lights work now. It was the sensor on the tranny.

BTW, a 4 pin connector does not have the backup light signal (left turn/stop, right turn/stop, normal lights, and ground)
