Default bad bearing

As some of you know my oil pump has failed on me and i buaght a rebuilt engine for 500 bucks. i was thinking instead of spending all the time to put the new engine in if it was worth my time putting a new oil pump in and going from there? the engine turns but wont start. many people have told me i probaly have a bad bearing or threw a rod.

If you had an oil system failure you should spend the time to swap or rebuild. When the pump goes out the entire engine is damaged, every moving and stationary piece from top to bottom. Sorry to be the one to break it to you. The good new is the rebuilt engine has probablybeen bored, depending where you got it.

Have the old heads checked out by a good machine shop before putting them on your new motor. They may have been damaged when the oil quit.

Was the new motor originally a marine motor. If so it is lighter than a standard iron block. Marine motors have a higher percentage of nickel.

The accessories obviously, I think the cam and heads are focused more on torque than HP. The internals for the most part are the same, I think.

Isn't there a difference in the water jacket or something?

I seem to remember something about that but I can't recall what it is.
There was a short time when marine 400ci motors were the rave and most people were using the short block only, I think.
