Been outta the loop lately. Anyone recently try out the Predator and/or Superchips tuners? I don't have the time and money to go with a custom tune so thinking about buying a tuner in a month or two depending on whether anyone has had any good luck with them.

Mainly wanna crank that torque management down a bit.

 

I did the Predator. Alot of trial and error, but if feels like my truck has a big block now. Hp was increased the asme if not more than the Hypertech did, but I increased the injector slope to comp for the intake mods, and then removed most of the TQM. It runs like a scalded dog! One drawback to the Predator on 99-03 trucks. Every once and a blue moon it will shift real hard and you have to shut her off and restart it. Mine does it but its not that bad. They have a fix that they can email you and you load it to the programmer. Haven't had a chance to do it yet but it supposedly works. Im really happy with it tho. The damn thing feel 1000lbs lighter with the TQM removed. And the top end is "snappier" then what the Hypertech gave me.

 

HUH? I thought before 03 all the pickups had the regular style throttle body vs. the newer style electronic throttle body. I also thought you only had torque management if you had the electronic throttle body. My dad's 00 Sierra doesn't have the torque management.

In any case. The improvements are good to here. Is that rough shifting problem on ALL of them or just a couple here and there?

 

Ive been looking at the predator for awhile so this is good info for my 99. Ive been out of the loop myself lately so I decided to spruce up the inside of my truck with a bamboo back wall, wacha guys think lol? It makes the 12 seem abit more punchier or it seems abit more "live-lyer"

It might be only the 99-02 that have the problem. The TQM is in all the 5.3, 4.8, 4.3 trucks since 99. Its just the TQM is more of a timing and fuel management thing in the 99-02, and more of a variable throttle body position thing on the 03 and up. Either way the Predator can either reduce or eliminate it. The problem on my truck seems to be when you jump on it. It shifts hard when you do this but it will eventually relax itself after a couple of minutes. Its like the truck is unsure of what your gonna do next so it keeps shifting like your racing. If it bugs ya, you have to shut it of and restart it and then its back to normal. Like I said, they have a fix for it anyways. You send them your tune via email, then they fix it and send it back.

Oh and no it doesn't happen with ALL trucks but quite a few of them (it seems) from 99 to 02.

 

I wwent with the super chips a few years ago, it's done pretty well. I have no idea whats it TQM functions are since I'm not auto, I know you can change shift points and all that. I'd go with the predator seems to be the best bang for the buck. I am however selling my super chips for like $50.00 as soon as I get my first pay check from my new job

 

Yeah, I'll probably go with a Predator too. I have heard good things about Superchips though.
