Default Black Clutch Fluid

1997 GMC Sierra, 305, 5 speed. My hydraulic clutch fluid keeps turning black. When this happens my clutch feels "weird" and once when the fluid got really black and thick, the clutch just went out completely. But then when I replaced the fluid (using the instr in my Haynes manual), it was fine. But it keeps turning black. About 2 or 3 times a year I have to replace it. The line isn't close enough to the exhaust for the fluid to be getting "cooked", I just don't know what else would make it turn black. Anyone else had this situation or have any ideas?

Probably from a cylinder on its way out...maybe making some metal dust

That's what I was a afraid of. I just replaced the slave cylinder about 4 or 5 years ago. What would make one go out so often?
