Default Brake Pads

I have a 2000 Silverado 1500 4WD that just turned 100k. It's time to doits firstbrake job. Dealer wants $184 for a set of front pads (must be there own bail-out plan). There are many differentbrands and type ofpads out there. Any opion on what works best? Have'nt seen the inside of the rotors but the outer face looks good (no grooving or excessive wear). I'll measure them and possibly just turn them.

Thank you
John

I just didmy pads on my 98 Z71, I picked a middle of road pad. Not cheap ones but not too much either, don't remember the brand. I got them at Autozone for under $50. Talk to the guy behind the desk he can steer you in the right direction.

bjf1280 thanks for the reply, do you remember if youused semi-metalic or ceramic etc. My worries are aftermarket pads squeaking. I've tried using aftermarket pads on my wifes Durango with no success, they squeaked.

I would not put the hard pad on as they tend to make brake noise.

Youdo not want to hear that for the next 50K miles.

my mechanic put a med grade pad on my 2500 series and I have been satisfied with them.

We changed the front & rear pad on my '03 Silverado, and hardest part was getting the bolts on the backside of the calipers loosened up, as i broke 2 star wrenches before finally breaking them loose. Put never seive on them when we put it back together. Check the splash shields too, as my passengers side rear was rotted out. My wifes Avalanche needed all 4 pads and rotors (Approx. $300.00 Total), and her splash shields were also rusted through. Didn't replace either hers or mine as they are a SOB to change, as ya gotta pull the rear axles to replace them, maybe this summer, we'll see. We went with the mid grade pads as its not a hard job to replace, and for the price, if i get 2 yrs out of them, i'll be happy. No squeaking either.

I have always ran the autozone cheap lifetime warranty pads on my other vehicles with no problems. The only thing is the brake dust. And if they did have break noise I just changed them again. Now on my 04 with 81,000 miles on it when I go to do a brake job on it I think I am going to go with the Autozone ceramic pads if they are life time warranty. My buddy has the cheap Autozone lifetime warranty pads on his 01 with no problems at all. And my wife's Ford Explorer has cheap Autozone pads on it with no problems. Only thing is in the morning it squeaks a bit at first but goes away by the front of the neighborhood.
