brakes

I have a 91 K2500 with drum rear brakes, and my left rear drum has a squeal when i am at low speeds without the brake pedal pushed. I just put new shoes on it, but it also did it before with the old shoes. any suggestions? thanks

Its sounds like it out of adjustment.

is it a constant squeal or intermitant? a constant sqeal would mean it could be a backing plate that is either bent or out of round and rubbing or the shoes could be mis adjusted

I think they are self adjusting arent they? It seems like they got tighter since I adjusted them.

And it is a constant squeal. It only does it when you let off the gas at under 10mph

They adjust themselves outward not inward, and can get too tight.

Ill try loosening them up a little. thanks for the help

Any luck on finding the squeal?

Well I loosened the adjuster and it worked fine for a day, but then it started back again but not as bad. It still does it when you let off the gas and you can feel it wanting to stop you. Maybe oil on the shoes? I jacked one wheel up and it turns fine but you can hear the shoes rubbing barely.

After driving a bit, the adjuster self-adjusts the shoes outward. I think it's 'normal' for them to drag slightly. Did you change the hardware along with the shoes (springs, clips, etc.)?
