it only took me a few hours to get the brackets made and have the seats in. all i used was sine flat bar, square tubing, and angle bar. i cut off the mounting brackets from the cleica seats but kept the sliders so they will still move backwards and forwards.

if your 85 is like mine, there are...6 bolts that hold the bench seat in? maybe? 2 in the front, 4 in the back. i dont remember. but i used those same holes to make my new brackets. now i only use two holes to hold the back of the chair down, and the one in the front. i used the same seatbelts and the spool mounts over the outside hole, using the same 3rd hole. i wouldnt go cheap when you make your brackets. buy quality steel and TAKE YOUR TIME. its not just an addition to the truck, its whats gonna save your *** if you wreck!

yeah there are 4 bolts all together...lol i have to level the floor out. I just use a 2x4 to level it out. but i put the 2x4 under the carpet so its not seen. I will bolt the new bracets through the 2x4 to the floor. but i wont be able to use the bolt holes from the bench seat because they are to far in, so i will have to make new holes.

I'm reminded of a failed attempt at fabricating my own replacement brackets for the sweet set of racing seats I bought for my Grand Am.

I did not fully grasp every aspect of the undertaking, and soon found myself faced with a challenge of sorts. In my haste, I had almost destroyed the original brackets made for the stock seats and, inthe spirit of efficiency, had enlisted the help of two none too bright, but well meaning friends. Ideas were being kicked around ranging from making the brackets of scrap wood of which we had plenty, versus taking out the welder and seeing if we couldn't, in fact, kill ourselves with it.

After lighting my upholstery on fire, burning myself badly in the process, and discovering that after all we had done, we seemed to have forgotten one crucial step: Measuring.
A simple task of grabbing the measuring tape and outlining at least in the most perfunctory way what and where we needed to cut, we could have saved ourselves hours of mind numbing monotony.
