Default cat back
is the cat back setup louder? If not what is the purpose?

depends on the setup, but,yes if you go with aftermarket (ex: flowmaster) 2 into 1. It also breathes easier, gives you more power, better mileage.

I don't know if its louder, but it lets you retain your cats for emissions purposes.
