What all would it entail to change gear ratio's in a rearend? I would like to go from a 3.42 to a 3.73 for towing purposes. Would the computer have to be reprogrammed? Can you change the gears without changing the entire rearend? I have a 1998 GMC Sierra C1500 with a 5.7L V8. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

Should be able to do that,but yes,the speedo would be off...I don't think gm has any way to correct the speedo for a gear change though

Warning though...changing ring gears and pinions is EXPENSIVE to buy and TEDIOUS to get them not to howl
