Question chassis question??

Hello everyone. I have a question that maybe someone can answer. I have a 2000 chevy 1500 silverado. The rear chassis section is extremely rusted and corroded. The rear leaf spring hangers were replaced by the previous owner. My question is....Did GM use sub-standard steel? Where did they get it from? I have seen a lot of older trucks with perfect frames. If anybody knows, let me know. I'm curious........Thanks AL

well i have the same problem (ill post you a pic or two later) exept my leafsprings are fine its my frame supports that fully rotted off.

i know GM used steel because i could easily weld it and the way it looked but im not sure what type or where it came from. but they do give frames an undercoating to keep from rusting
