Chevy Silverado 2500 Diesel Vs. 1500 Gas
#3
I wouldn't consider either good as far as an investment. Looking at it strictly from the resale and fuel efficiency aspect the gas truck will get about the same mileage as the current diesels and will have a lower initial cost and lower maintenance costs. The percentage you will lose when it comes time to sell will be slightly more on the diesel truck too (yes the used ones sell for more, but the new one's cost a lot more too). I went through this scenario with a friend of mine a few years ago who was in the market for a new truck. He wanted a Ford F-250 and at the time the diesel engine was a $7000 add to the sticker price. Now we are comparing F-250 diesel to an F-250 Gas not a 150 which would be considerably less money. He would have had to drive the diesel slightly over 100,000 miles just to break even as far as truck cost vs. fuel/gas consumption. He never pulls a trailer and just wanted a 4X4 F-250 to customize and ended up with the gas motor. The benefit of a diesel is if you were pulling or hauling heavy loads. If your not, a diesel is a waste of money.
