clicking sound while backing up
hey guys...I'm new to this place that I stumbled across while looking for an answer to a question. I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado p/u. The other day, while in reverse I heard a "clicking" type sound coming from either the tranny or rear-end - any tips as to what it might be?? Just asking before I take it to a dealer or tranny place. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...
Hey Tony,
I'm pretty new to this as well, so don't take this as gospel, but it kind of sounds like a rear differential, or maybe a U joint in the driveshaft.
My differential blew up last winter after hammering the heck out of the truck in all the snow - and I didn't realize this but at least the 4wd models come with a limited slip diff. I know that some differentials are limited slip when going forward but not backwards, which is what makes me think it might be that, since it's something that is different when going in reverse.
Good luck.

I had a similar problem with my '02 chevy I replaced the both driveshaft u-joints and that was the it. The biggest pain in the *** is the fact that both of mine were different and chey made a **** load of u-joints for it's trucks good luck
