Default coils?

So my pickup as it is rihgt now with the high mileage engine starts a little rough, cranking over for a few seconds, then sputtering when first started. I think it may be the coils, or something with the ignition system. You can also smell gas when it first sputters off. This happens about half the time,a nd the other half it fires right off. What do you guys think, do i need to buy new coils?
Thanks in advance

Sounds more like a fuel issue to me than electrical. Maybe a sensor or TPS sensor. Sounds like it is running rich.

I consider myself pretty advanced in the skills and tools area, not nearly as you obviously, but I do all of my work myself. I usually like to work on older vehicles though, the ones where you dont need a doctorate to figure out, haha. While i got your attention, where is that regulator located? Im sure my new engine doesnt have it included. Again, Thanks Man

you may have to remove the upper engine cover...the plastic cover...on the drivers' side, she sets on the fuel rail...there is a vacuum line going to it...pop that line off and see if there is fuel in your vacuum
