coolant leak
I have a 2005 Silverado Z-71 5.3L. I have developed a coolant leak near the right front of the motor near the water pump, but I cannot tell where it is coming from. There is fluid on the pump, all steering components below, and below the radiator. But I cannot find the source. It is not steady leak, and does not seem to leak at all at idle, but there is little fluid in the hoses and I maxed out the temp guage tonight briefly. Fans are working. Also is there an easy way to refill the radiator? After it heated up, I filled the resivor and that helped some, but cannot seem to get the system to fill up completely. Also when it heated up I shut the truck off as soon as I could and there was still fluid in the resivor. Any ideas? Thanks for the help ahead of time.
Check the Throttle Body as well - Why? Because there are two feeds for the water to pass through the TB to heat it up. You have heard of the TB bypass kit. The points of input and exit are on the sides of the TB. You will see a small 1/4" hose going in from the right, leaving from the left. I can't tell you how many times this has been the root of a small, undetermined leak.

Glad to hear you worked it out. FYI; the Gibson exaust system is the most restrictive system out there. It may sound good but as for back pressure relief, bad, bad, bad. You'd get more from having a 3" tube back to a Flowmaster Delta 40/Super 40. It's small enough that they can set it right up near the rear axle and I can tell you, the resonance in the cab isn't bad at all. Not to mention you'll save yourself $300. The Gibson and MagnaFlow Mufflers are almost 22" long with 4-5 delta offsets. That is no better than what you get from the factory, except for sound. The Flowmaster is 12" long with 2 Delts offsets. Dual exaust isn't as important as free flowing cats. The headers sound great and sends you in the right direction. Letting the engine breath will give you instant BHP. I've been working on mouses since 68' and more so than a BB, they love fresh air and and easy way to get rid of it. You can get an Airaid drop in to replace your stock tube from your stock maf and that will add 300cfm of induction. If you get a GMS MAF, you pick up another 10hp. Like I mentioned, the TB bypass is an easy 6hp. No matter how fresh the air is you plan on pushing into your TB, if the TB is hot because the water runs through it @ 190*+, you've gained nada.

The guy at the local performance shop here said that you don't want to free up the exhaust too much, and that dual exhaust (especially true duals) would decrease power. I know you need some back pressure, but what this guy is telling me sounds nuts. Seems to me that true duals with quality X-pipe is the way to go. I don'tknow a ton about exhaust though so maybe I'm crazy. I just don't want to through money away for no reason, and then have to pay again to get it right.
