The cowl is designed to draw in cool air and help keep underhood temps down. You won't feel any performance difference, but as stated - they look great and are functional in most cases. Some even have a kit that will direct cooler air to your airbox. Still likely won't FEEL a difference but still worth it if ya have the cash.

Not sure I would block it with gauges, but that's just me.

Speaking of cams, how hard would it be to throw one in on a 5.3 DamnYankee? I have torn apart engines before but never a V8 with so much copper (wires) wrapped around it. Which one would you get (any of you guys)? What will it do to my MPG?

Thanks!

i highly doubt you will notice any mpg difference, but the sound from a new cam (never mind hp) is amazing

Hp and mainly Torque gains will be very apperant when it gets tuned for the new cam. If you just slap it in then you will not get the full benifits from it until you get it reprogrammed. Crane cams usually come with (or you can buy one) a programmer for the cam and motor that you have. Also if you have an CAI and cat back exhaust, when you order the programmer they will ask yo what you have done to the truck so that they can get the right peramiters for the programmer. Other than that if you can keep your foot out of it then you may see a little bit of an increase in MPG. But if you get a really big cam, then you will probably not see any increases in MPG's but you will have a whole lot more power!

I think I read about the ls6 cam working well in the 5.3s. I think you would want to change you springs to. If you check Ebay you will find a nice kit for cheap.

Definetly get a matching set for that motor, if you decide to piece it together make sure that you do your research! If you go with a bigger cam then like RXSTEVEN said you will need to get stronger springs.
