descreened MAF

Whats up guys Im new to this site but I read on many trucks it said descreened MAF. I was wondering what that was? I have a 06 Z71 MSD wires, E3 plugs, K&N intake, superchips tuner, throtle spacer, flowmaster single out exhaust. any other mods you guys can think of will be helpful. thanks

RE: descreened MAF

Don't descreen your MAF sensor. Others that have taken it out have had a lot of problems...but then again some swear it helps. Put it this way - No one with the stock one has problems, in fact some of the fastest non-aspirated trucks are running the stocker. On the other hand there are a LOT of reported problems after descreening due to turbulent airflow. The stocker is designed to smooth the air flow out.

There are tons of other mods you can do to wake that truck up.

See, not all people have issues (or know they have issues). But if you're into performance modifications, you're going to want to get it custom tuned eventually, and I promise you virtually every tuner is going to tell you to use a stock, screen MAF sensor. Whether you can feel it or not when driving it can screw up your A/F ratio, cause detonation, poor gas mileage, etc. Aftermarket MAF sensors are calibrated to operate without a screen. The stock one is calibrated to operate with the screen. If you want a MAF without a screen, buy an aftermarket one. If you screw with the stocker, you will have issues. Search performancetrucks.net and ls1truck.com and see how many issues there are.

Add to that - IF there were gains - they would be minimal at best. Not worth the gamble in my opinion.

Use the search window on this page and search "Tips and tricks for Free Horsepower".

I descreened mine as well several months ago and no issues. Also a slight milage and performance increase.

Those of you who have descreened it - what's your A/F Ratio?

I removed the screen from mine and I have an Auto Meter AF ratio gauge. The readings didn't change at all from when I still had the screen in.Still right in the middle of Stoich at startup, then bounces back and forth when at cruising speeds, which is normal.
