I've seen some people have a descreened maf sensor, is this different than a performance maf like grannitali?

Of all on here who have done it, has anyone actually broken or messed up theirs yet? Has anyone noticed any problems related to descreening the MAF?

It is supposed to catch anything big that slips past the filter, but come on does anybody actually think something big enough to be stopped by that screen can actually get through the filter? Its also said to smooth out airflow, but all it does is decrease airflow.
