Ok i know im a dodge owner but my father in laws 02 gmc sierra 5.3 has a problem it dies at idle and produces black smoke it also makes a undescribable noise what could this be he has only put dual flows on her and that is it it has i think 93000 miles please help someone at Midas told him it was his cat and it would cost $290 i know thats a good price but is that the problem it wont do over 35 if you can get it there but then when you stop at a light it dies and doesnt wanna start i was thinking like injetors, or pressure regulator and Autozone cant pull codes nothing pulls up on thier tool

 

eah it sounds like the cat you can drill some holes right before the cat to see if that helps but if its not the cats then you now have to patch the holes.

yea it flashes the ses light and then goes off but the people at autozone couldnt get anything to come up at all no link up to vehicle computer

 

if its the cat,it should start ok cold and decline..unless its REALLY been plugged for awhile...try removing an 02 sensor in front of the cat and trying it

 

Not to keep going off subject here but how has that exhaust helped your performance?

 

better throttle reponse more mpg you know dodge mpg is last thing they think of.

Ok back on track he took it to a shop and they said the pcv valve is empy like sucked apart i guess(third party info from girlfriend) and someone has done "something weird" under the truck the coils something i dont know what is the explanation i got. oh and they say its only running on 2 cylinders well i guess there is a first for everthing the first 2 cylinder fuel injected full size truck........ leave it to GM
