Default Diesel swap?

i would like to know how hard it would be to do a swap from my 5.3 to a 6.5 duramax diesel.

i can get my hands on the duramax but i would like to know if i have to switch wiring harnesses suspension and or transmissions

I think it's probably a safe bet for all of those to need replacing. Plus your accelerator. Mind you, diesel engines don't suck

EDIT: Also your brake booster will have to go hydro-boost.

Duramax is a 6.6 the earlier less popular GM diesel was the 6.5. Some love the old ones while others not so much. I have only heard good about the Duramax though. As far as the swap you will be better off selling your truck and buying a Duramax. Unless you just came across a complete donor truck it would nickel and dime you to death. If you have the patience and the skills a Duramax 1/2 ton would be cool though.

Wow you have one of those too huh?!?!?! I, about once a week, get the "What is up with the truck in the back yard?"
Me - "It's not done yet honey"
Her - "Why do you have it if you never drive it?"
Me - "Because it ain't done yet HONEY"
Her - "When are you going to finish it?"
Me - "When I am done with all the projects you have for me around the house HONEY"
Her - "Oh so it is my fault - it isn't done?"
Me (inside my head) - ABSOFUKENLUTELY!!!! (Out Loud) - No dear, it is a project truck and you knew that when I bought it. It takes time to get them done.
Her - "I don't see the point - do you know how much you have in that truck now?"
Me - "I am going to walk away now - I love you!"

I have had the truck a whole 3 months too - not a very long project compared to some I have done (before her).
