Dual Exhaust
Where should i have the dual tailpipes come out?

RE: Dual Exhaust
Straight back. Classic look, but still my favorite.
|
RE: Dual Exhaust
slightly down and behind the rear wheels, or a little more towards the corner of the bumper... but im partial...
|
RE: Dual Exhaust
I like both yer ideas... If i was to pick one, probably straight back.....

RE: Dual Exhaust
Straight back is the way to go

RE: Dual Exhaust
Has any one just changed the muffler with a performance muffler(Magnaflow or Gibson)? Im asking because the stock exhaust looks like its a decent size and personally I think that getting bigger might be an overkill. (Thats just my two cents) Anyway I like out turned out behind the wheels with a niceset ofdecent sized tips. U should get a pic when u get it done.

RE: Dual Exhaust
Yes too big is overkill. You will lose too much low end torque. I know as I did it and then had to put on reducers to get the power back. I would change it from the muffler back.

RE: Dual Exhaust
cheaper that way. but i lucked out and when i bought mine it already had true duals on it.
|
RE: Dual Exhaust
The older 5.7 can handle the true dual, but the 5.3 needs a tighter exhaust.

And keep it above 3000 RPM all the time even off the line, so no more towing.
|
RE: Dual Exhaust
yea thats true but im finally having the exhaust finished tomorrow.

RE: Dual Exhaust
Hey smoke, i happened to read your last reply and not quite sure what you were referencing to when you said now spazinout has to keep the rpm's above 3,000 and no more towing. I plan on going to a catback system eventually, am i missing something? I'll still be able to tow right? Sorry for having something go right over my head............. Jim

RE: Dual Exhaust
chevyrules - MrLM7 is right, if you open it up too much like I did then you loose alot of low end torque. But I was able to put some reducers on and get it back. It really depends on the motor yo uhave. I recommend if you have the 5.7, true dual , x-pipe 2.5 " pipe. If you have the 5.3, leave in your Y-pipe, then use a single in dual out muffler if you want duals. With the reducers my truck tows much better now. I still plan on getting the adjustable exhaust valves if the supercharger doesn't work out.

RE: Dual Exhaust
thats about how my setup is, minus the x pipe. header, 2.5 inch pipe just had some high flow cats put in so it would pass inspection. to 2 flow 40s.
|
RE: Dual Exhaust
where do you get those reducers smoke?
|
RE: Dual Exhaust
They are just standard reducers from an autoparts store. I have 2 on each side right now that take it from 2.5" down to 1 3/4". It helped alot. I tried reducing it to 1 1/4", but lost some milage andtop end power, so I am going to take the new reducers off and go to 1 1/2".

RE: Dual Exhaust
ok thanks
|
RE: Dual Exhaust
I partial to having it behind the wheels angled down, but thats just me.
Its definitly worth swapping the muffler if the tubing is already big enough 'cuz the stock mufflers are designed to be quiet so therefore there is restriction and a loss of power. Whatever you do dont go too big, I had a Dakota with the 3.9 V6 and I put dual 2 1/2's on it, it sounded awesome but at the low end ( below 2,500 rpm) i lost a good amount of power, plus the cops didnt like it too much... |
RE: Dual Exhaust
Straight out the back is always a crowd pleaser. A truck's ass is like a woman's ass. When put together right, nothin' looks finer.

RE: Dual Exhaust
Except more of them...
