And keep it above 3000 RPM all the time even off the line, so no more towing.

Hey smoke, i happened to read your last reply and not quite sure what you were referencing to when you said now spazinout has to keep the rpm's above 3,000 and no more towing. I plan on going to a catback system eventually, am i missing something? I'll still be able to tow right? Sorry for having something go right over my head............. Jim

He means the 5.3 loses some low-end power without enough backpressure. If you get the engine above 3,000 RPM, it will come alive... On the other hand, if horsepower is something you are looking for and you don't do a lot of really heavytowing, the bigger the exhaust, the better...

chevyrules - MrLM7 is right, if you open it up too much like I did then you loose alot of low end torque. But I was able to put some reducers on and get it back. It really depends on the motor yo uhave. I recommend if you have the 5.7, true dual , x-pipe 2.5 " pipe. If you have the 5.3, leave in your Y-pipe, then use a single in dual out muffler if you want duals. With the reducers my truck tows much better now. I still plan on getting the adjustable exhaust valves if the supercharger doesn't work out.

thats about how my setup is, minus the x pipe. header, 2.5 inch pipe just had some high flow cats put in so it would pass inspection. to 2 flow 40s.

They are just standard reducers from an autoparts store. I have 2 on each side right now that take it from 2.5" down to 1 3/4". It helped alot. I tried reducing it to 1 1/4", but lost some milage andtop end power, so I am going to take the new reducers off and go to 1 1/2".

I partial to having it behind the wheels angled down, but thats just me.
Its definitly worth swapping the muffler if the tubing is already big enough 'cuz the stock mufflers are designed to be quiet so therefore there is restriction and a loss of power. Whatever you do dont go too big, I had a Dakota with the 3.9 V6 and I put dual 2 1/2's on it, it sounded awesome but at the low end ( below 2,500 rpm) i lost a good amount of power, plus the cops didnt like it too much...
